Navigating Life After a Traumatic Brain Injury,

Our Mission

“TBI in Real Time” exists to make the invisible visible by sharing the unfiltered, everyday realities of life after a traumatic brain injury. Each episode offers honest stories, practical tools, and hard-won lessons so people with TBI, and the people who love them, can feel seen, less alone, and better equipped with real-world resources and some hope for what comes next.

Alongside the podcast, the website serves as a one-stop shop with clear starting points in four essential areas: Living (housing and daily needs), Money (disability, benefits, and basic expenses), Support (therapy, counseling, and community), and Learn (education about brain injury). It grew out of one person's  experience after  brain injury, brain surgery, a coma, and being sent home with no roadmap and very little support.  It's meant to be the kind of practical guide, and steady reference point, he wished had existed for him—and now want to offer to others.

Robert’s Story

After a traumatic brain injury turned my life upside down, I spent over a year just trying to figure out how to get through the day, let alone rebuild a life. I didn’t know what I needed, what my insurance might cover, or who to even call for help. I also didn’t know what questions to ask. I just knew I was exhausted, dizzy, scared, and overwhelmed.

TBI in Real Time – the podcast and this website – were born out of that confusion. I wanted something for the moments when you don’t know what to do, where to turn, or what to even type into Google. Here, you’ll find some of the very basic questions many of us need to be asking about housing, money, insurance, therapy, and daily life after a brain injury.

This won’t be every answer or every resource. But my hope is that it can give you a place to start, and help you feel a little less alone and a little less invisible in what you’re going through.
